West Gorton

In August 06 developers Artisan and Barratt were selected to regenerate the 52 hectares of West Gorton.

Artisan is a Manchester based property development company specialising in urban regeneration and Barratt are one of Britain’s largest house-builders with substantial resources.

The consortium are currently working with New East Manchester Ltd and the local community to develop a masterplan and implementation framework for the regeneration of the area, which currently has a mix of uses that are predominately industrial, commercial and residential. 

After two consultations with the community, residents have expressed the need for new family housing, new local centre with shops and improved public spaces. These suggestions are currently being worked into a masterplan plan due to for completion in October 07.

In early 2008 it is expected that the first planning application will submitted for new homes in the area with work starting on site later that year.
