Search starts for development partner for West Gorton

A development partner or consortium is being sought to work with New East Manchester Ltd to transform West Gorton, an area of East Manchester that covers 52 hectares (128 acres) and within one and a half miles of Manchester city centre.

Once selected, the development partner will work closely with New East Manchester Ltd, its partners and the community to develop a masterplan and implementation framework for the regeneration of the area, that currently has a mix of uses that are predominately industrial and residential.

Tom Russell, chief executive of New East Manchester Ltd said: "We are looking for a suitable development partner who shares our vision for West Gorton, an area of the city that suffers from high levels of poverty and deprivation and currently has a population of around 1,500 people. We're seeking a company or consortium that has drive and ambition, with a flair for making things happen and a track record of working with local people to deliver high quality, sustainable, innovative and yet practical mixed use development projects. The regeneration of West Gorton has a vital role to play in both contributing to, and benefiting from, the positive momentum that has already been developed in East Manchester."

Deadline for submissions is 3 March 2006. For more information click on www.manchester.gov.uk/business/westgorton
