Ninety people ran for fun in Clayton Vale in east Manchester
Urban regeneration company New East Manchester and national sports development charity StreetGames hosted a special family fun run on Sunday 15th March at Clayton Vale Centre.
Ninety people including children running with their mums and dads took part in the 1.9km race around Clayton Vale. Everyone who completed the course was given a special medal and certificate.
FormerCommonwealth champion and Olympian Diane Modahl, started the race and her 13 year old daughter Imani was the first across the finish line.
John Dwan, managing director of Sport 4 Life who delivered the event on behalf of StreetGames and New East Manchester said: “This first Run 4 Fun was a great success. People seemed to really enjoy getting involved and it again shows how much local residents really enjoy community events which bring people together.”
Sean McGonigle, Director of Regeneration at New East Manchester said: “We had over 100 hundred people at the event which was great to see. The sun shone, it was a lovely spring day, and everyone enjoyed being outside in this lovely oasis of green space which we’re so fortunate to have in this part of the city. Many of those participating had never visited Clayton Vale before and I’m sure they’ll now become regular visitors”
The event was supported by Medlock Valley Project Team and Friends of Clayton Vale, two local organisations working hard to improve the physical environment of the Medlock Valley in east Manchester and encouraging community involvement through events and activities.
