West Gorton
West Gorton is an established neighbourhood, situated around 1.5 miles east of Manchester City Centre and bounded to the south by the main Hyde Road (A57) arterial route, to the east by a section of the Inner Ring Road, Pottery Lane, and to the north and west by main railway lines.
West Gorton contains a mixture of self-contained residential areas and older industrial sites. The residential areas of around 900 properties are concentrated in the southern and central areas off Hyde Road, with the older industrial units lying to the northern parts of the neighbourhood against the railway line.
The West Gorton neighbourhood itself suffers from poor environmental conditions, above average levels of crime and anti social behaviour, poor shopping facilities, and a lack of local community facilities. The neighbourhood requires major investment to support the long-term sustainability of the neighbourhood as a whole.
