The Evolution of Clayton
There are 1,321 residential properties in the Clayton neighbourhood, 543 of these are privately owned and the remaining 778 belong to the Registered Social Landlord – Eastlands homes.
A neighbourhood plan has not yet been created for Clayton, however, East Manchester Private Sector Housing is currently securing void properties where possible and serving notice to tenants and landlords when appropriate. This helps to maintain and control the types of tenants living in the properties in Clayton.
Eastlands Homes is currently carrying out a modernisation programme on their housing stock, carrying out improvements to homes in the area. Funding from Housing Market Renewal has also enabled work to be carried out on privately owned properties.
A major street environment and pedestrian improvement scheme took place on North Road and was completed in April 2006. The work acts to reduce vehicle speeds, improve parking facilities and ensure a more suitable environment for pedestrians. The scheme has now been extended to provide access to the newly improved entrance to Clayton Vale on Folkstone Road.
Population
The neighbourhoods of Clayton, Clayton West and Ashton New Road have a combined population of 2773 people.
