The Vision

The Vision for Openshaw:

  • create new family housing structured on a regular grid street pattern

  • continue to support neighbourhood renewal

  • consolidate industrial uses and improve the physical relationship of these with adjacent residential neighbourhoods

  • create a secondary north/south route to link MANCAT with the Clayton Metrolink station on Ashton New Road and to create opportunities for new commercial and residential development

  • create an internal street network across the Parkhouse Industrial Estate to improve neighbourhood permeability, create an address for new employment uses and establish an internal circulation route for heavy vehicles

  • improve road and pedestrian connections north of Ashton Canal

  • Establish a Stockport Canal ‘Greenway’ north to Clayton Hall and the Ashton Canal Corridor and south to Gorton

  • Establish a Green Route linking Beswick east with the Ashton Canal Corridor

  • Capitalise on the high profile areas along Alan Turning Way by locating prestigious commercial and mixed use development along this frontage

  • Undertake extensive landscape improvements along Ashton Old Road, Alan Turing Way and Ashton New Road
